What is the STOTT PILATES® METHOD?

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates.

Co-founders Lindsay and Moira Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent three decades refining the STOTT PILATES® method of exercise and equipment into a comprehensive, systematic, contemporary approach to the original teachings.

STOTT PILATES® methodology incorporates modern exercise principles, and applies practices in biomechanics, spinal rehabilitation, fascial integration, muscle conditioning and athletic performance enhancement.

What is the STOTT PILATES® movement system?

The STOTT PILATES® movement system is based on a series of principles which provide the framework for every exercise.

STOTT PILATES® exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and re-balance the muscles around the joints.

The STOTT PILATES® PRINCIPLES (Breathing, Pelvic Placement, Rib Cage Placement, Scapular Movement, Head & Cervical Spine Placement, and Hip, Knee, Ankle & Foot Alignment) form the foundation of the method. Additionally, options for preparatory exercises and modifications allow the technique to be appropriate for clients of all ages, body types and abilities, making it applicable to all daily activities including recreation and sports.
