MERRITHEWTM Education

STOTT PILATES® Certification Education

STOTT PILATES® is a contemporary approach to the original exercise method pioneered by the late Joseph Pilates. Co-founders Lindsay and Moira Merrithew, along with a team of physical therapists/physiotherapists, sports medicine and fitness professionals, have spent over two decades refining the STOTT PILATES® method of exercise and equipment. STOTT PILATES® methodology incorporates modern exercise principles, and applies proven and accepted practices in biomechanics, rehabilitation and athletic performance enhancement.

STOTT PILATES® exercises are designed to restore the natural curves of the spine and re-balance the muscles around the joints. This involves placing emphasis on pelvic and scapular stabilization, and integration of all the parts of the body into one. As well, preparatory exercises and modifications allow the technique to be appropriate for many different body types and abilities, making it applicable to sport-specific training and everyday life.

Pilates South Texas offers the internationally renowned and respected STOTT PILATES® training method. As the STOTT PILATES® Licensed Training Center in Houston, we welcome all new, experienced and aspiring instructors and trainers who desire to learn and benefit from the STOTT PILATES® Education and services provided at Pilates South Texas. The enhanced emphasis to strengthen one’s knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy and mindful movement structured around the STOTT PILATES® Five Basic Principles will be thoroughly reinforced with a progressive, supportive approach at Pilates South Texas.

The STOTT PILATES® education method is unparalleled in the industry for its thoroughness and quality. We at Pilates South Texas maintain these established standards in order to mentor our students for a career of Pilates instruction.

The Pilates instructor training programs range from Matwork and Reformer to the Cadillac, Chair & Barrels. These certification programs are complemented with the STOTT PILATES® Injuries & Special Populations education and Merrithew™ Continuing Education for further professional development.

The instructor will be able to execute the STOTT PILATES® method in a personal or group training setting. The knowledge will allow for the instructor the ability to customize workouts that promote performance enhancements while addressing client musculoskeletal deviations or injuries.

2 CORE Continuing Education

CORETM Athletic Conditioning & Performance TrainingTM is a training program that focuses on functional fitness, targeting core strength and kinesthetic awareness for the improvements of total-body strength and power. Available education is Instructor Foundation Course and Instructor Training Workshops.

INSTRUCTOR FOUNDATION COURSE
CORETM Athletic Conditioning & Performance TrainingTM Foundation Course introduces important concepts of athletic conditioning and performance training. Emphasis is placed on using 11 Foundational Principles when training athletes, covering alignment and biomechanics for optimal performance. In addition, components of athletic conditioning are reviewed including resistance training methods, plyometric training, balance training, and speed and agility training.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING WORKSHOPS
These instructor training workshops incorporate the various concepts covered in the program while utilizing a variety of large and small equipment options to provide targeted training strategies. Although it helps to have prior CORETM training, these workshops are not restricted to those who have completed the Foundations Course, so all Pilates and fitness professionals are eligible to attend.

3 TOTAL BARRE Continuing Education

Learn choreography, exercise essence and correct biomechanics of movement, as well as how to effectively utilize the power of music to create safe and fun barre classes in any setting.

INSTRUCTOR FOUNDATION COURSE
TOTAL BARRETM Foundation Course presents 11 specially arranged and selected segments – accompanied by timed selections of music – that serve as the template for each session or class and produce a balanced and complete barre workout. Participants are also introduced to the Total Barre Principles.

INSTRUCTOR TRAINING WORKSHOPS
These instructor training workshops focus on barre exercise progressions, movement form and efficiency, and the importance of cueing with music for movement quality. Workshops provide instructors with pre-programmed workouts specifically designed to address a specific aspect of fitness training or to suit a particular target group. Additional concepts are explored, including the value of cardio-based intervals within a program, suggestions on themes and training programs, so all Pilates and fitness professionals are eligible to attend.

4 ZENGA® Continuing Education

Learn to program workouts and integrate exercises in a playful yet powerful mix of three-dimensional circular and wave-like patterns designed to stimulate the fascia and take stress off the joints. With an emphasis on proper breathing, posture and movements that vary in tempo, load, and intensity, participants will benefit in all areas of wellness, from muscular strength, endurance, and mobility to stability without rigidity, and most importantly, an increased sense of self.

INSTRUCTOR FOUNDATION COURSE
The ZEN•GA Mat and Equipment Foundation Courses teach the principles that make up the method and shows how to apply them to movement programs designed to help clients reach their desired goals.
